Freckles was a mini lop and he was one of the most
docile bunnies I had ever seen! We got Freckles in October of 1997. Freckles
loved to run and play but once you picked him up, he just stayed put and didn't struggle or
even try to get down. My children all loved to hold him or put him on their laps
while they watched TV and he just stayed put.
My daughter Arielle had a special love for this
little bunny and we all considered Freckles to be Arielle's little bunny. Arielle
carried
Freckles everywhere and he was so mellow and little and he just accepted it willingly.
Freckles is full grown in these pictures and weighed about 4 pounds. In the pictures
below (You can click on them to see a full size image), you can see Arielle sleeping with
Freckles. Freckles stayed with Arielle for several hours before we finally took him
out of her bed.

Freckles was happily bonded and lived with Duchess and Peanut
Update: We have no idea what happened to
Freckles or Peanut. Peanut died unexpectedly and
without any signs of illness on 9/23/02. The following morning, we went
downstairs to find that Freckles was taking his last few breaths. Since
Freckles was the 2nd bunny to die from the same group in less than 24 hours, I
knew that he needed to go for a necrospy. I called the vet and explained
everything and the vet asked me to bring Freckles's body and 3 other rabbits
that were living with him. My vet consulted with another vet and it was
decided that Freckles's entire body should be sent to the states lab for
examination and blood samples were taken from the other bunnies and sent to a
different lab. The vet says there were no signs that anything is wrong
with the 3 I brought in. It will take around 10 days to get any results
back and I pray that no other bunnies die in the mean time.
