8/14 Onyx went for her first acupuncture session with Dr. Barney. We
have another appointment for the 16th and he gave me a referral to a place to
see about having an MRI done. You can see her pictures during acupuncture
below. She was really good during the session and just laid very
still. Dr. Barney said she does have some feeling in her lower body and
when he squeezed on her foot, you could see her flex at the knee and when he put
the needle in her foot, it did shake a bit. You can click on any picture

8/15/00 - 9/10/00 Onyx is holding her own at this point. We have
stopped the acupuncture after several visits because we are not seeing any
improvement and Onyx gets so stressed out by the drive and trembles the entire
time. I am expressing her bladder 2 -3 times per day, giving her adequan
injections every few days and sub-q fluids as needed. Her fur has grown
back and she is eating great, loves her treats and begs for pets. We are
resolved on the fact that Onyx is just going to be our little disabled bunny.
9/10/00 - Onyx is fine when I leave for work but when I come home, I
discover that she is missing an entire section of fur and the skin is raw and
there are areas where the skin appears to be missing. I can see white
stuff which I think is her muscle. This is not a good sign. On
Monday morning 9/11, I call the vet and take her in. There is a section
about the size of a dollar bill that looks horrible. The vet said the skin
is dead and that open area is her muscle. Onyx spent the day there so they
could get her cleaned up and so I could go to work. I went back to pick
her up and the vet gave me a spray on antibiotic and I asked for pain medication
for Onyx in case she showed any signs of pain. The vet said that whole
section would probably fall off since the skin was dead but to try to keep it on
there as long as possible to try to give an opportunity for new skin to grow.
9/11/00 - 9/14/00 we were keeping the area clean and dry and using the
antibiotic. The area looks really bad and Onyx is starting to make some
grunting noises when I express her bladder and I think this must be causing her
some pain. The vet gave us an e-collar to keep Onyx from chewing at the area and
she seems to be tolerating it ok. On the morning of 9/14/00, everything
was ok when I left for work. When I came home, I was horrified to discover
that Onyx had chewed her foot raw. It is the only area she could reach
beyond the collar and now she has chewed it up. I wrapped a washcloth
around her foot and used mechanical tape to secure it on. Onyx is starting
to grind her teeth which tells me that she is in pain. Things are looking
very bad and Onyx is going downhill.
I am very confused right now and feeling very weepy, I just don't know what
to do with Onyx. She still is eating great and snatches her treats so fast
that you better watch your fingers but I am not sure sure how happy she is. I am
feeling like I have a decision I need to make right now as to what is best for
Onyx. Is it fair to her to continue on this way.
